The Human Animal Bond Research Institute hosted its third annual Spring Policy Forum in Washington, D.C., focusing on expanding access to pet-inclusive housing. The event brought together leaders from the pet care, animal welfare, housing, policy, and research sectors to discuss solutions for reducing housing barriers for pet owners. Discussions included protections for individuals with disabilities who rely on pets and assistance animals, as well as policy proposals addressing breed, weight, and size restrictions, excessive pet fees, and transparency in apartment pet policies.
A keynote was delivered by Lisa Rice, President and CEO of the National Fair Housing Alliance. The forum concluded with the launch of the Pets and Families Housing Coalition, founded by organizations including American Pet Products Association and Mars, to advance evidence-based pet-inclusive housing policies nationwide.
