In Greenfield, Iowa, AHeinz57 Pet Rescue and the Adair County Veterinary Clinic are collaborating to rescue and treat animals affected by an EF-4 tornado on May 21. Led by Amy Heinz, the rescue team has been tirelessly searching through debris for lost pets, using traps to catch them. Dr. Melissa Gracia Rodriguez, in her first year of practice, is treating numerous injured animals, many suffering from glass and debris in their bodies, broken bones, or worse.

She finds it emotionally challenging, especially when delivering tragic news to pet owners. In addition, she notes the trauma experienced by the animals, including her own dogs, who now react fearfully to certain stimuli. Heinz and Rodriguez aim to reunite pets with their owners, believing that mutual support can aid in their recovery. AHeinz57 is covering all Veterinary costs for the injured animals, with donations being accepted to support their efforts.
