The Halifax Humane Society has launched a three-month campaign to combat cat overpopulation by offering male cat neutering for just $0.05. Running from April 1 to June 30 at its Daytona Beach clinic, the “Neuter Scooter for a Nickel” initiative aims to complete 900 procedures. The program is open to both owned and unowned cats, with specific clinic days and intake requirements, including the use of humane traps for community cats. Each procedure package includes surgery, pain management, a rabies vaccination, and either microchipping for pets or ear-tipping for feral cats.
To meet demand, the organization has expanded its daily surgical capacity. Officials emphasize that targeting male cats can significantly reduce unplanned litters and slow population growth among both free-roaming and household cats. The campaign also celebrates the organization’s 90th anniversary while promoting responsible pet population control.
