Rowan University’s Shreiber School of Veterinary Medicine, with a $500,000 gift from Merck Animal Health, unveiled its new Shelter Medicine & Community Engagement Mobile Unit. The 40-foot, custom-built vehicle includes a surgical suite, recovery cages, and exam space. It will provide Veterinary students with hands-on experience while bringing essential Veterinary care to underserved pet populations in New Jersey. Services include preventive care, treatment, and spay/neuter procedures, supporting shelters and community outreach.
This initiative reflects Merck’s commitment to enhancing Veterinary access and fostering the human-animal bond. The program aims to train conscientious, community-oriented veterinarians while addressing the health needs of animals and the communities they serve. Students will engage in “One Health” practices, linking animal, human, and environmental health, to build sustainable community partnerships. The mobile unit reinforces Rowan’s goal to prepare career-ready veterinarians and advance Veterinary care through education, outreach, and innovative approaches to animal health.
