The National Milk Producers Federation (NMPF) praised the House Agriculture Committee’s reconciliation proposal for including key provisions that support the dairy industry and broader agricultural economy. NMPF President and CEO Gregg Doud commended Chairman GT Thompson and committee members for advancing measures that offer stability and opportunity for dairy farmers. The proposal extends the Dairy Margin Coverage program through 2031 and updates production history calculations to reflect a farm’s highest output from 2021, 2022, or 2023.
It also allocates funding for USDA dairy processing plant cost surveys every two years, aiding future policy decisions. Additional support includes resources for trade promotion, conservation, research, and animal health programs. The bill will become part of a broader budget reconciliation package, which includes an extension of tax policies. NMPF supports making the Section 199A tax deduction permanent, enabling cooperatives to return value to farmers or reinvest in operations. Doud emphasized the importance of getting policy right for long-term industry success.
