A new “Petflation 2026 – April Update” report found that pet-related prices remain at or near record highs, with overall pet inflation matching the national Consumer Price Index at 3.8%. The report highlights continued price increases across pet food, Veterinary services, pet services, and supplies, although some categories experienced slight month-to-month declines in April.
Veterinary services remained one of the fastest-rising categories, with prices increasing 5.5% year over year and more than 55% since 2019. Pet services also saw significant inflation at 6.6%, while pet food prices remained near record highs despite modest easing. Researchers noted that cumulative inflation continues to affect consumer spending behavior, particularly in discretionary categories like pet supplies.
The report suggests that rising costs may reduce Veterinary visit frequency, encourage pet owners to seek lower-cost food options, and accelerate the shift toward online shopping and private-label products. Analysts expect inflation to continue influencing purchasing habits throughout the pet industry.
