A California commercial pilot has filed a lawsuit against the Sheraton Denver Downtown Hotel after allegedly being bitten by a bat that entered his hotel room during a swarm in August 2025. Staying in Denver for work training, he awoke around 2:30 a.m. to bats flying throughout his room. Hotel maintenance removed some bats but allegedly did not move him to another room, despite an apparent opening in the air conditioning unit that may have allowed the animals inside.
A remaining bat was later removed by animal control, which warned that local bats had tested positive for rabies. The pilot then discovered a bite on his foot and underwent a series of rabies treatments costing more than $100,000. The lawsuit seeks compensation for medical expenses and emotional distress, claiming the incident left him fearful of staying in hotels. Marriott International had not publicly commented on the lawsuit at publication time.
