A rabid beaver attacked multiple people, including an 8-year-old boy, at Lake Henry, according to local authorities. The boy was fishing near the shoreline when the beaver emerged from the water, charged him, and bit him on the thigh after he fell while trying to escape. A nearby adult intervened and drove the animal away. Police later learned the beaver had also attacked other park visitors earlier that day. Animal control officers captured the beaver after observing signs of illness, and testing confirmed it was positive for rabies.
Officials said all bite victims are receiving medical treatment and urged anyone who may have encountered the animal to contact health authorities for evaluation. Rabies experts warn that unusual aggression, disorientation, lethargy, and loss of fear toward humans can signal infection. Health officials emphasized that prompt treatment following exposure is critical because untreated rabies is almost always fatal once symptoms appear.
