Rabies Testing Concerns Prompt Investigation from Minnesota Health Officials

The Minnesota Department of Health is investigating concerns that ASAP Wildlife Services MN may not have consistently submitted animals for rabies testing. Officials are asking customers who used the Twin Cities company for rabies testing between September 1, 2025, and September 9, 2026, to contact the department.

The investigation began after at least one customer received a negative rabies test result attributed to a laboratory that Minnesota officials say does not perform animal rabies testing. The company has reportedly not responded to state outreach, prompting officials to contact customers directly to determine whether testing occurred and whether anyone remains at risk.

Because rabies symptoms can take time to develop, health officials are reviewing cases from the previous 12 months. In Minnesota, animal rabies testing is performed through approved state public health laboratories or designated university Veterinary diagnostic facilities. Out-of-state laboratory results must also be reported to Minnesota health and Animal Health authorities.
