Mars unveiled its “Pets Connect Us” Report recently, highlighting the profound impact pets have on fostering connections among people and communities in the U.S. and Canada. Despite rising rates of loneliness, pets emerge as vital companions, with 83% of adults interacting with new people because of their pets. These connections transcend age, culture, and background, fostering unexpected friendships and neighborhood bonds. Pets serve as conversation starters for 90% of adults, easing social interactions and enhancing perceptions of kindness and trustworthiness among pet owners.
However, the report also sheds light on pet homelessness, estimating that 20% of dogs and cats in the region are strays or awaiting adoption. Mars reaffirms its commitment to addressing pet homelessness through various initiatives, including pet-friendly workplace grants and adoption events. The report underscores the need for continued efforts to create pet-friendly communities and ensure the well-being of both pets and their owners.
