Amazon has expanded its healthcare services by partnering with online pet pharmacy Vetsource to offer prescription medications for dogs and cats through its U.S. website. Pet owners can now order hundreds of commonly prescribed treatments, including flea, tick, and chronic condition medications. Prescriptions must be approved by a veterinarian, and Vetsource will handle dispensing and delivery, which typically takes two to six days.
This move puts Amazon in direct competition with Chewy and Walmart, both of which offer pet prescription services. The pet pharmacy expansion is part of Amazon’s broader push into healthcare, which includes Amazon Pharmacy and One Medical, the primary care provider it acquired for $3.9 billion in 2022. Amazon Pharmacy, launched in 2020, offers discounts and free delivery for Prime members and is working to expand same-day medication delivery across the U.S. by 2025. The addition of pet medications signals Amazon’s continued investment in the growing pet healthcare market.
