The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA) has awarded $8.2 million through its Veterinary Services Grant Program to address shortages of food-animal Veterinary professionals in rural communities. The funding will support 34 grants designed to expand access to essential Veterinary services, strengthen rural practices, and improve education and training opportunities.

Sixteen Education, Extension and Training grants will help veterinarians, Veterinary students, and Veterinary technicians develop specialized skills through accredited Veterinary schools and professional organizations. Another 18 Rural Practice Enhancement grants will provide up to $200,000 each to help Veterinary clinics purchase equipment, support staffing needs, and expand services in federally designated shortage areas.

The initiative seeks to improve access to Veterinary care for livestock producers while strengthening the long-term sustainability of rural Veterinary practices. By investing in workforce development and practice infrastructure, USDA aims to address persistent Veterinary shortages and support animal agriculture in underserved communities nationwide.
