The U.S. Department of Agriculture has issued a directive aimed at expanding livestock grazing on National Forest lands and strengthening support for American ranchers. Announced by Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins, the policy advances a joint USDA–Department of the Interior grazing initiative designed to restore multiple-use management on federal lands and reduce regulatory barriers affecting livestock producers.
The directive instructs U.S. Forest Service employees to prioritize permitting for vacant and closed grazing allotments, maximize grazing flexibility, streamline permitting and authorization processes, improve engagement with ranchers, and ensure producers have a stronger voice in land-management decisions. USDA officials say the measures support approximately 23,000 grazing permittees and lessees who rely on public rangelands while helping maintain rural economies and the nation’s food supply. The actions build on previous efforts to strengthen the U.S. beef industry and reflect the administration’s broader goal of increasing access to federal grazing lands, supporting ranching operations, and promoting the production of American-raised beef and other livestock products.
