Wilmington College is exploring a new partnership with The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine to strengthen pathways for students pursuing careers in large animal Veterinary medicine. Representatives from both institutions met on April 29 to discuss formalizing a pipeline that would help Wilmington graduates continue their Veterinary education at Ohio State. The collaboration also connects to the Protect Ohio initiative, which uses a “One Health” approach to address challenges in rural communities by integrating animal, human, and environmental health.
The partnership aims to tackle the shortage of large animal veterinarians in Ohio while supporting the state’s agricultural economy. Programs like OSU’s Large Animal Rural Veterinary Mentoring Program would help prepare Wilmington students for rural Veterinary careers. With strong internship participation, advanced lab opportunities, and high job placement rates, Wilmington College is well positioned to contribute to developing the next generation of Veterinary professionals.
