A six-year old Wisconsin girl is recovering after being bitten by a rabid bat in her yard in Shawano County on June 23. According to her family, Cece Kale was attacked when the bat wrapped its wings around her leg and would not let go. Her mother, Elizabeth Kale, said Cece initially struggled to call for help before finally alerting family members, who killed the bat. The animal was later tested and confirmed positive for rabies.
As a precaution, Cece is undergoing a full course of post exposure rabies treatment, which consists of four vaccine doses designed to prevent the disease from developing. Health officials emphasize that rabies is almost always fatal once symptoms appear, making immediate medical treatment essential after any potential exposure. The incident serves as a reminder for people to avoid direct contact with bats and other wild animals and to seek prompt medical attention if bitten or scratched by a potentially rabid animal.
