The Saipan Humane Society (SHS) and the Department of Land and Natural Resources’ Animal Health division, supported by a USDA NextGen Grant, are hosting a Veterinary team from Washington State University (WSU) to enhance animal health services and education on Saipan. Led by Dr. Jessica Bell, WSU’s Community Practice team specializes in wellness care, preventive medicine, and surgery. Bell is joined by Veterinary technicians Aleena Nemeth and Nicole Valdez, who bring expertise in large animal radiology, exotic pet care, and anesthesia.

The WSU team will provide clinical care for pets at SHS on Dec. 5, 7, 9, 10, and 12, from 9:30 AM to 2:30 PM. Services include health certificates for pet travel on Dec. 9 and 10. In addition, Bell will lead an educational session at Northern Marianas College on Dec. 6, promoting Veterinary careers and responsible pet ownership. This initiative is part of a five-year effort to improve animal welfare on Saipan.
